Hey so I started this hobby just collecting any sonic series mini 4wd then I took an interest in races. I bought an aero avante starter kit and it wasnt functioning well since I used fujitsu disposable batteries. I was gonna ask what to do when I buy my first battery. Should I discharge it first or charge it. Also I got a SkyRC1500 as a gift from a friend is that good? Thank you

The SkyRC1500 is good enough, and has most of the basic functions. Slight down side is because it is so small, there no fan to keep things cool like some of the larger chargers has. Discharging and then charging the battery right out of the pack is a good way to " break in " the battery. If you spent a lot of money on good rechargeable then it's worth it to keep them in good shape.

Good advice cycle them a few time to get them up to peak performance and analyze them from time to time to monitor there output performance Record the internal resistance and match like cells for best output.

Some, if not all of the SkyRC chargers have a way to check internal resistance.

I don't cycle my batteries. NiMH batteries don't need as much maintenance as NiCads did.

I do replace them every year. 30 bucks once a year for 8 1900mah and 4 900mah batteries is one of the cheaper bits of maintenance to keep cars running well.

How old is the batteries? Typically when they got old though cycled many times the IR is spontaneously increasing due to its chemistry life from the case it is preferred to replace it with new ones.

I recently matched all my cells and I gave a brief explanation that I think would help you.

Here’s the link to the Facebook post:

One of the things I didn’t post there was I have multiple chargers at my disposal.

    - SkyRC MC3000
    - SkyRC NC2600
    - ISDT N8
    - ISDT C4

They all give out different readings for mAh and internal resistance. So just buy one you like and stick with it.

Each smart charger will give you a different IR reading. Which charger are you using?
